Building Your Own Computer - 1705 Words

For the purpose of my research project, I wanted to build a computer suited to my needs. Due to lack of funds I was unable to purchase the parts I wanted. To work around this obstacle I took apart my own computer and rebuilt it to learn the process of building a computer. Throughout this research outcome I will explore the processes I used and will discuss important matters to consider. I will also reference information that will help you build your own computer. The Australian Bureau of Statistics states that since 2013, 83% (7.3 million) of households have internet access. This means at least 83% of households have access to some form of computer influenced technology even if it isn’t computer (smart phones, tablets). Being able to build your own computer will save you money as well as giving while having control on your PC’s performance. Desktops may not be portable but are great if you want more performance for your price. Deciding what parts to use when building your computer may be a long process. For me deciding the parts for my next computer that I want to build took longer than taking apart and putting together my current computer. Bochner Insko asked students to suggest how much sleep was needed, before showing them two different sources of information – an expert and a non-expert. Students were more persuaded by the expert even when it conflicted with their own beliefs. Another finding from the model found that messages are more effective if the audience feels that their main purpose is not to persuade. Also, if a message contains a moderate level of fear it becomes more successful. McGuire also found that there was a primacy effect in messages. His research found that when he was trying to persuade students to join a course, he was more persuasive if he gave the positive points first. The final factor involved in the Hovland-Yale model is audience factors. It was seen that moderately intelligent audience members were more easily persuaded and when aiming at high intelligence audience members, it would be more effective to present both sides of the argument. The Elaboration-Likelihood model focuses on the message itself and splits this into two sections. Whether the audience focuses on the main content of the message or if they focus on other factors such as the communicator giving the message. Petty et al. called this the central and peripheral route. The central route audience members focus on the quality of the arguments and are motivated to think about the message. It’s been suggested that this has a lasting attitude change. The peripheral route is quite the opposite as audience members are not motivated to think about the message and they focus on the peripheral tools (such as music, celebrities, colour) rather than the arguments presented. Attitude change through the peripheral route is temporary. The Hovland-Yale model has good research support for all three factors involved in the model. Morton et al. found that children had more favourable attitudes after being given information from an expert (doctor) than a parent. Lewis et al. ound that fear arousing messages were effective in the short-term, but messages containing humour were more effective in the long-term. However, Fechback et al. found that high fear level was most effective in messages which disputes McGuire’s findings. However, McGuire’s findings can also be explained another way to show support. If following the basis of the psychodynamic approach, messages using high fear arousal may trigger defence mechanisms such as denia l or repression in audience members, suggesting moderate fear level is the most effective. Research also supports the key points of the Elaboration-Likelihood model. A psychologist supports the claim that the central route is more effective for high need-for-cognition audience members. Models have heavily relied on laboratory based research, which causes us to question the ecological validity. However, real-life application has occurred and found that when students were exposed to a fact-based or emotion-based health campaign, the higher NC individuals were more influenced by the central route (fact-based) and the lower NC were more persuaded by the peripheral route (emotion-based). Although both models are heavily supported by research, many research studies have involved students which brings problems of generalisation. Students have an age, wealth, and education status which is not typical of the general public. Answer: All states have been provided the authority to manage their own mining regime and thus separate legislations have been enacted by states to regulate the mining activities within them. The paper deals particularly with the mining regulations of the state of Western Australia. The law related to mining in WA is provided through the Mining Act 1978 (WA). Other legislation related to mining in WA is the Offshore Minerals Act 2003, the Mining Regulations 1981 (WA), Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 (WA) and Mining Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995 (WA). Part IV, Division 1 of MA is related to the provisions of prospecting licenses (the (Mining Act 1978, s. 40-56B). The division deals with the grant, application, determination and conditions related to prospecting license. A prospecting license is provided for a period of four years and can be extended further for a period of four years. Division 2 of the part deals with the rules related to exploration license (The Mining Act 1978 , s. 56C-70.) Exploration license are provided for two years and can be extended to an additional two years. The divisions provide how exploration licenses are granted, application for licenses, security, expenditure conditions and forfeiture. Divisions 2A of this part deal with the provisions related to retention license the (Mining Act 1978, s. 70A-70N). Division 3 of the part provides provisions related to Mining lease and explain how such lease is granted, how the application has to be made, how such application is determined and how the leases are issued. Mining leases can be provided for a period of 21 years and can be renewed further. The obligations which the license holders have to go comply with include provisions of Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 (WA), all holes which are drilled have to be capped and filled after completion, all costeans and other contamination to the land which is made by exploration has to be rehabilitated and backfilled in accordance with the DMP environmental officer, before the termination of the exploration program all rubbish and waste materials have to be removed, rehabilitation and backfilling has to be done within six months of excavation, the rehabilitation requirements also have to be adhered by after the conclusion of the process according to the MA. The Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Cth) (EPA) also govern environmental provisions related to mining activities. The grant of license by the MA has to be constructed in accordance to the provisions of the EPA. If a proposal is deemed to have a significant effect on the environment the EPA is entitled to review the proposal and reje ct, approve or approve with conditions. According to the Mining Rehabilitation Fund Act 2012 (WA) a compulsory scheme through which mining operators other than those operators whose tenements come under the state agreements have to pay regular levy and give distribution DATA into a fund as security for compliance. A consultation process also has to be initiated by the mining operators with the indigenous community affected by the project according to the Native Title Act 1993(Cth). Compensation has to be provided with respect to the size and type of project and the position of the company. The codes of practices have been created to ensure that the process of mining is carried on in a safe way and the operators have simple guidelines to follow through which they can avoid any unwanted and hazardous incidents. In the last five years there have been several incidents related to mining in Australia resulting in fatalities. According to Australias Mining Monthly a worker had been killed in during the mining process in Yandicoogina on 4th July. It had been reported that the death of the worker was related to the use of explosive in an illegal manner by the mining operators. However according to Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety the investigation process is still going on. According to Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety. (2017) during the year 2013-2014 death of sixteen mining workers were dead due to accidents in Australian mines. On 20th June 2016 a fitter died while doing maintenance work over a drilling rig near Paraburdoo. An offside worker collapsed underground as the conditions were too hot and died the next day in November 2015. Due to the rolling over of a haul truck at Cornishman a man was killed on 7th September 2015. A person was crushed between a roof of a cross cut and charge up basket at Telfer gold mine in May 2015. During the maintenance work a person was crushed fatally at Woodie Woodie Manganese mine. On 15th February 2014 a worker died as a rock fell on him in Harlquin Mine Norseman. There are various other fatalities which arise from time to time in the mining sector in Australia. One of the major reasons which can be cited for such facilities are the lack of compliance with the code of practices related to health and safety (McLennan, Bec ken and Moyle 2017). There have also been various cases related to the breach of environmental provisions by the mining companies. The concerns related to environment are rising day by day and mining companies are playing a major part towards polluting the environment. In the Kyodo Senpaku Kaish Case, AustraliaWhaling the court fined the mining company of $1 million for the breach of environmental regulations (Leshy 2014). The Government of western Australia Department of Mines , Industrial Regulations and Safety have provided various code of practices aimed at making the process of mining safer and sustainable. According to the code of practices related to the consultation at work as per the provisions of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994it is the duty of the employers to consult with health representatives and the employees with regards to the safety and condition of the workplace. The responsibility of safety and health in the workplace is on all parties. This means that not only the employers but also the employees have the responsibilities to ensure their own safety in relation to the workplace and notify the employer in case of any potential danger. The code of practice in relation to mining surveys has been formulated by the government in order to ensure that the survey requirements in relation to the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 (WA) and Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 19 95 (WA) are complied with. The code is imposed upon all the mining surveyors who are employed to survey both surface and underground mining activities. The code of practice provides that both two and three dimensional non-digital recording is done in relation storage and preparation of a land mine. The code of practice recommends the transformation of mining plans to MGA94. It is also provided by the code of practice related to survey that sign conventions, definitions technical symbols for the shown strata of mine plan is included in the book of survey. The code of practices related to the Mining exploration drillings have been made by the government so that a safe system of drilling work operations can be carried out especially in relation to remote areas. The code of practice acts as a formal guide for the purpose of compliance with health and safety legislations. It is applicable on any person who owes a duty of care according to the provisions of the code. As a code of practice is only related to a specific act or areas it is the duty of the responsibility holders that they do not omit any area and provide equal attention to all. The particular code of practice provides guidelines which are both non mandatory and mandatory in nature. The other codes of practices which have been provided by the government are for the Prevention and control of Legionnaires disease and Prevention and management of violence, aggression and bullying at work. These codes of practices provide guidelines to the managers, operators and the workers to mak e sure that they comply with the existing legislations through applying safe and legal practices and are not subjected to legal consequences. Sustainability has also been a problem with the mining companies. It is often found that the mining companies are subjected to environmental fines as they do not abide by the policies relating to the sustainable use of the environment. The policies relating to the sustainable use of resources promote rehabilitation and taking appropriate measures to minimize environmental losses as provided in the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development)Act1990 (WA) The provisions of the codes of practices set out the best way a person should deal with in relation to a given situation. Hence if the codes of practices are followed it would lead to better management of activities which would decrease the accidents in the mining system. As technology is developing, new technology also has to be incorporated into the mining process in order to enhance the safety of the workers and avoiding accidents. The accountability of the managers in relation to such accidents are requires to be increased in order to prevent them from happening in the future. The processes and procedures provided by the codes of practice, standards and guidelines related to mining have been drafted in accordance to the respective legislations of the WA related to mining activities. As the provisions of the codes and guidelines are in compliance with the legislations it ensures legislative compliance on the part of those who abide by them. Moreover it is easy to abide by the code of practices as they clearly set out actions to taken in particular circumstances as compared to the legislations. History of the Tom Thumb Steam Engine and Peter Cooper Peter Cooper and the Tom Thumb steam locomotive are important figures in the  history of railroads in the United States. The coal-burning engine led to the replacement of horse-drawn trains. It was the first American-built steam locomotive to be operated on a common-carrier railroad. Peter Cooper Peter Cooper was born Feb. 12, 1791, in New York City and died on April 4, 1883. He was an inventor, manufacturer, and philanthropist from New York City. The Tom Thumb locomotive was designed and built by Peter Cooper in 1830. Cooper bought land along the route of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and prepared it for the train route. He found iron ore on the property and founded the Canton Iron Works to produce iron rails for the railroad. His other businesses included an iron rolling mill and a glue factory. The Tom Thumb was built to convince the railroad owners to use steam engines. It was cobbled together with a small boiler and spare parts that included musket barrels. It was fueled by anthracite coal. From Trains to Telegraphs and Jell-O Peter Cooper also obtained the very first American patent for the manufacture of  gelatin  (1845). In 1895, Pearle B. Wait, a cough syrup manufacturer, bought the patent from Peter Cooper and turned Coopers gelatin dessert into a prepackaged commercial product, which his wife, May David Wait, renamed Jell-O. Cooper was one of the founders of a telegraph company that eventually bought up competitors to dominate the eastern coast. He also supervised the laying of the first transatlantic telegraph cable in 1858. Cooper became one of the richest men in New York City due to his business success and investments in real estate and insurance. Cooper founded the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City.   The Tom Thumb and the First U.S. Railway Chartered to Transport Freight and Passengers On February 28, 1827, the Baltimore Ohio Railroad became the first U.S. railway chartered for commercial transport of passengers and freight. There were skeptics who doubted that a steam engine could work along steep, winding grades, but the Tom Thumb, designed by Peter Cooper, put an end to their doubts. Investors hoped a railroad would allow Baltimore, the second largest U.S. city at the time, to successfully compete with New York for western trade. The first railroad track in the United States was only 13 miles long, but it caused a lot of excitement when it opened in 1830. Charles Carroll, the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence, laid the first stone when construction on the track began at Baltimore harbor on July 4, 1828 Baltimore and the Ohio River were connected by rail in 1852 when the BO was completed at Wheeling, West Virginia. Later extensions brought the line to Chicago, St. Louis, and Cleveland. In 1869, the Central Pacific line and the Union Pacific line joined to create the first transcontinental railroad. Pioneers continued to travel west by covered wagon, but as trains became faster and more frequent, settlements across the continent grew larger and more quickly.

Over-all Impression of His Development My child is quite following a normal developmental stage. He seems to be excited on new things and his mind full of wonderful imaginations of things that are not there. This manifests in his works of arts like drawing, painting, and building blocks. He is a bit intelligent, he likes doing things on his own with out asking the help of the teacher. He is excited to find out what will happen after trying to fix one object to another, he is very independent. While other kids are roaming around their teachers to explain to them what to do, my child easily get the instruction from the teacher and start doing it all by himself with no fear of mistakes. His positive interaction with others as I observed him, show no sign of developmental concerns or problems. He interacts casually and participates well in the group. He is confident in himself and is rather smart in doing the right thing. He even suggests something to his playmates what to do to make the game really much interesting. This positive social attitude of my child may not simply part of the developmental process but I guess, a manifestation of advance intelligence for a four year old kid, maybe a normal reaction of a growing child being curious about many things. Socialization Inside the room, the children have all the opportunity to interact with other children and adults. In this case, I saw my child intermingle with other kids of his age and with his teachers. My child seems to have developed a good self-esteem; he did not have difficulty adjusting with the new environment as well as with his interpersonal relationship. My First Chat Room Experience Perhaps some of the most amusing sites to visit on the Internet are the online communities. Given this topic, I was forced, although it was inevitable experience hardly avoidable, to do some self exploration by entering the intriguing world of chat communities. Communities designed for talk, friendship, romance, entertainment, education, support, or even pleasure. With the variety of topics I had the opportunity to explore, I was exposed to all of these options. Initially, my first experience was frustrating and awkward. However, as I became more familiar with the sites, I was able to navigate around quicker and acquire helpful information and resources. In essence, entering the online community world has offered me unparalleled experiences which have strengthened me both educationally and emotionally. Although the Internet is quite a mechanically inclined experience, (ie research a topic, find the information, and leave), I discovered the online communities can also offer a completely different emotional experience. An experience which provides worldwide participants a forum to interact with faceless and often nameless strangers like themselves. An interaction based on a linguistic connection rather than a physical one. While this type of relationship may seem impersonal to an online community virgin, I came to discover in my journey that the physical distance between communicators is hardly important in comparison to the emotional connection. If one is emotionally close to someone, distance is definitely an insignificant factor. At the same time, one can be physically close but emotionally eons apart. In addition, while the medium of the conversation is anonymous and often discreet, this seems t... ...was definitely a memorable one. I experienced and learned in every room I visited. Still my favorite was undoubtedly the interracial chat room. The emotional support it provided was far more substantial than the pure enjoyment aspects of the other sites. Overall, each site provided a different service. A service catering to the requests a highly focused audience. However, I noticed the online communities did have one common underlying thread. The ability to bring people together and give them a sense of belonging. While I admit I will probably not visit a few of these sites again, they were all helpful in making my first chat room experience a truly unforgettable one. Event Is great way to let member know about upcoming conferences, Events are of many kinds such as a birthday, a wedding, concerts, parties etc. Death of some one, or any other incident that has occurred. Events are not necessarily good and happening but they are bad too.Depending on their nature events effect our lives in many ways such as if something good had happened it will effect us in a positive way similarly if something bad or wrong and depressing had happened then it will have a negative effect on us. LIFE: As long as I remember the first event that comes to my mind is en tering school and the start tot my school elite.At the age of 4 my preschool started, thus my world enlarged from my home to my school. Before joining school the only people knew were my family members and some other relatives but my school broadened my social circle which then included my teachers, my friends and many other people who accompanied me from my way to school and home, which predominantly include my bus fellows.Thus this event gave me knowledge, developed thinking abilities in me. But It took no time to me to adjust In the environment the major reason was again finding new friends who help me, took care of me and were always there for me when I needed them. This event my learning abilities and also developed in me sportsman sprit as during this time actively participated in sports.Then this chapter life had to close with the open of new event that was to enter collage this event again added to my experience, knowledge and skills, with the placement of colonization abilities and confidence to meet new people and face new challenges. The breatht aking event that happened during this time was the earthquake and disasters of 8th October. It shocked me from inside as I saw the demolished houses, schools and other buildings, crying mothers, yelling children and needy people, to be kind to all human beings and to have faith in ALLAH and also it strengthened my believe as a Muslim that everything in this world is temporary.There were many other events that remained a part of my academic years which are top positions in class and getting trophies as a reward. This gave me and my family a lot of happiness as well it gave me motivation to work harder and to become regular and responsible. There were many sports events which gave me pride whenever I succeed and in case of failure I learned to never be in despair but to try and try Picnics, welcome and farewell parties were also a part of this. They were again. Always a source of Joy, and they made me fresh.I am the oldest among my siblings thus the births of all my siblings were most Joyous events of my life. These events brought a sense of responsibility in me as being elder it was my duty to take care of y younger brothers and sisters. These events also taught me to be kind and gentle towards younger, and they also made me very playful, as playing with my younger siblings was and still is an important activity in my life. The yearly event of everyone's life is the arrival of his or her birthday.So in my life too each birthday brings loads of love, blessings and happiness in my life. The wishes of my parent's, siblings, friends and all other people make me feel their love, affection and care towards me and I feel blessed the whole year long as I have the feeling that their love ND prayers are always with me. My excitement increases many folds if someone celebrates my birthday. Other than excitement birthday brings some maturity in me as I think about the year I have passed and critically analyzed whatever I have done.I cheer upon my successes and learn from th e mistakes. Marriages of my close relatives are also very exciting events. Aids are wonderful and exciting events, getting new clothes, meeting people after a long time, get-together and rejoicing the old memories are all part of my did. Thus my energy is boost up, I remain active and happy. One sad event that I recall is when my aunt had brain hemorrhage and is now paralyzed. I was very depressed those days and felt very bad for her. With the passage of time everything came back to normal and was l. UT the impact of this event stayed, as I learned to take care of patients, to serve and to entertain them, to make them simile so that they forget their worries and pain and get a feeling that they are not alone, people love them and care for them. There is another sad event that I remember is my aunt's death. Her death was a shock for all of us as Just a day before her death she came to our house and spent the whole day with us, we had the lunch together and she talked to us for a ere long time and then after having tea with us in the evening she left.We had a great time with her and the very next day when we were talking about her suddenly we came to know about her death, this news was a great shock for all of us and none of us was ready to admit the fact that she is no more with us. Her sudden death a life that is afterwards. This event also helped me to become a good Muslim and a good human being. These were some of the vital events, I have come a cross and they have indeed left a mark on my feelings, behavior and response towards certain scenarios.

The Role of the Individual in Candide

All around the world the roles of the individual and of society are completely abstract. As the world changes and develops, the roles of the individual and society change to meet the needs of the people. Voltaire's Candide which involves France during the Age of Enlightment & Marx & Engels' Communist Manifesto which involves Germany around 1848 both discuss the roles of the individual and of society in different ways. In both pieces of literature what is expected of the individuals and of society is very different from what is presently happening. The Communist Manifesto discusses human nature and social class while Voltaire discusses the flaws of society and the realities that not everything is for the best. In Communist Manifesto, the role of an individual is to be an equal and work towards the greater good of society and the role of society is to provide equality for all people. However in Candide, the role of an individual is to be an individual while the role of society is based upon the society you are living in. The role of the individual according to Marx and Engels is to be an equal with everyone else in society. The immediate aim of the Communists is the same as that of all other proletarian parties: Formation of the proletariat into a class, overthrow of the bourgeois supremacy, conquest of political power by the proletariat† (Communist Manifesto 13) The Bourgeois are the 0. 1% of the population that owns the means of production and The Proletariat are laborers who are 99. 9% of the population. Carl Marx state s here that the goal of Communism is equality for all. If you overthrow the Bourgeois it insures that power will be balanced because its 99. 9% in control now instead it’s 0. 1% in control. Marx describes his distaste for how everyone in society is being manipulated by the small percentage in control. Marx goes on to say that â€Å"The Bourgeoisie has subjected the country to the rules of the towns. It has created enormous cities, has greatly increased the urban population as compared with the rural and has thus rescued a considerable part of the population for the idiocy of rural life† (Communist Manifesto 7) People are being control in a majority of their daily routines and being an individual is not something truly supported by the Bourgeoisie. â€Å"You say individuality vanishes. You must therefore confess that by â€Å"individual† you mean no other person than the bourgeois, than the middle-class owner of property† (The Communist Manifesto 16) The idea of communism is to encourage people to actually be individuals while being an active member of society. Although the role of the individual are made very clear by Marx they fail due the ideals of human nature. It is said that the human nature can be considered the downfall of communism. Communism as proposed should be extremely successful but due to human nature there is no way for communist success. The success declines as soon as it starts because people lose motivation. People have no motivation to work as hard as they possibly can because everyone is economically equal. This is a flaw of the communist society as opposed to capitalism. Marx wants people to work as an autonomous collective to gain power and take it away from capitalism however, people are only invested in something that benefits them, and communism relies on an â€Å"all for one, one for all attitudes. According to The Communist Manifesto. the role of society is to provide equality for all people. As stated â€Å"In bourgeois society, living labor is but a mean to increase labor. In communist society accumulated labor is but a means to widen, to enrich, to promote the existence of the laborer† (The Communist Manifesto 15) Marx describes a comparison between the society currently and what Marx’s hopes society will be. Individuals are promised so much more in a Communist society. The difference between the idea of increasing labor and widening labor although minuscule provides hope for the people who are sick of their current society. In communist society, the present dominates the past. In bourgeois society, capital is independent and has individuality while the living person is dependent and has no individuality† (The Communist Manifesto 15). This shows how people, while working toward the greater good have their own individuality under communist society. In a Communist Society although people are allowed to be unique they are all considered equal no matter what. In Candide the role of an individual is to be an individual. Voltaire, throughout the skill of repetition exploits how people behave. He describes for instance how everyone feels someone is better off than they are. Voltaire uses Candide's journeys to portray the human assumption that the grass is always greener on the other side. Now even though most people are not pleased with how their lives are currently, they are esteemed individuals. Individuals work for the benefits of themselves as they cultivate their farms and work hard to make sure their families are well fed and stable. â€Å"‘I have only twenty acres of land’ replied the Turk, ‘which my children and I cultivate. Our work keeps us free of three great evils: boredom, vice and poverty’† (Candide 112). This shows how in Candide, society’s individuals work hard on their own to make something out of themselves. According to Voltaire in Candide the role of society clearly depends on what kind of society you are currently living in. Societies, according to Voltaire had many flaws. As Candide comes to the land of Eldurado, we are shown an almost flawless society. â€Å"Candide asked to see the law courts, he was told that there were none, that lawsuits were unknown. He asked if there were prisons; the answer was no. †(Candide 64) In this nearly flawless society all men are free and the king is the complete opposite of a tyrant. â€Å"I know my country doesn’t amount to much, but when man is fairly well of somewhere, he ought to stay there. I certainly have no right to prevent foreigners from leaving: that kind of tyranny is sanctioned by neither our customs nor our laws† (Candide 66). Another society Candide discusses is Paris. â€Å"Yes, I’ve been in Paris: it’s a mixture of everything found in all the provinces. It’s a chaos, a restless throng in which everyone is looking for pleasure and hardly anyone finds it, or at least that’s how it seemed to me†(Candide 75) In Paris it seems that this society has no partake in it’s citizens lifestyle. The individuals yearn for what society has to offer them. Voltaire uses satire to take aim at the military, religion, and societies' shallowness to disprove Pangloss’ theory that â€Å"all is for the best†. The world that we live in is not the best of all possible worlds.

Only in a matter of seconds, a lady comes running by in the same direction and as she passes she yells † † to which he replies † â€Å". One by one, people run past him trying to condemn and mock the leisurely individual for not conforming, however, the individual remains unhurt by their sayings and repeats pleasant words as an answer to the runners. The technique of dialogue and its setting out is very important. It tells the viewer that the individual thinks in his own ways, not conforming to the society that believes in the created sense of urgency. This individual has his own objective in life and wants to live by experiencing everything slowly while others try to make him keep in touch with the real world hence the call â€Å"you wont know whats happening, you wont be clever. † Visual techniques used by Michael Leunig to deliver his ideas include colour, foreground/backgrounding and body language. The colour of the background is natural, with the sky in blue and the ground in green as grass usually is. This use of natural colour has connotations to the natural instincts of human beings and thus links with the issue that Leunig suggests. The colour of the people running in the background is darker than the individual who stands in the foreground, possibly containing the meaning of evil in the runners, who together represent the majority of the world. The foregrounding of the individual and the backgrounding of the runners signifies the individual over the other people, as if criticising the world in the background and using the individual character to portray the world that should be as it always is with Michael Leunig’s works. The posture and body language of the characters in The Plotter is organised so that the individual is slightly hunched showing the person’s humbleness while the runners are portrayed standing tall and strong showing false confidence. Through these techniques, Michael Leunig illustrates a simple and interesting story with deep meaning,
